Overview

Exploring media that stimulate sight, sound, and motion in music boxes.

Reflecting on life events through paper music sheets, I believe the analog sounds of a music box, with each turn, offer a charm distinct from today's fast-consumed music. Visitors can experience the music box while simultaneously observing and interacting with analog frame-style lighting installations.

The graphic design takes inspiration from the circular motion of manually turning the music box, emphasizing the harmony between the analog music and dynamic visuals.

Based on manual music box mechanisms, I crafted a wooden music box fitting the concept, maintaining an analog feel. For packaging, I drew inspiration from photo film packaging. The frame-style lighting was created by printing on multiple glass layers and installing them in a layered fashion.

Interactive Artwork, Music Box Experience

I created a piece that connects the past and present through songs reminiscent of childhood, allowing melodies filled with past memories to become cherished keepsakes. Visitors can engage in an interactive experience that stirs emotions by operating manual music boxes and turning on lights, culminating in a space that provides a uniquely memorable manual music box experience.

We often preserved special moments through photos and videos. Beyond these images, certain songs that enrich these moments hold a dear place in our lives. Exhibitions depicted emotions from childhood or specific times, not merely recreating nostalgia but also allowing visitors to capture this moment through music box melodies. In a fast-paced world of digital photo sharing and memory consumption, I nostalgically provided visitors the times of treasuring printed photos from film rolls. Embracing this sentiment, packaging inspired by film canisters was designed to evoke analog memories.
